Easy Set up for a DIY INCUBATOR

It used to be done only in the zoos, science or research labs or even at pet clinics or shops, but now anyone can breed their own pet from a homemade incubator; a true DIY style. The beauty of this DIY incubator method is that you can choose the type of egg you want to hatch and the cost you want to keep a ceiling on as well as reaping the pleasure of your success in your venture; and all these at the comfort of your own home at your own time.

What do you need to make your own DIY incubator?

A DIY incubator is not expensive to set up; all you need is a Styrofoam box large enough to sustain the required environment for your pet-to-be. There should be a good control of the heat and humidity in the incubator which a digital thermostat would prove helpful. Other components include a water container to maintain a good humidity level, an open egg container that will separate the eggs from contact with the water or direct heat, the appropriate material to cushion your eggs and a rack to separate some of these components. These materials depend on whether you will be hatching bird or reptile eggs. These incubators will vary slightly in the materials but the core supplies will remain the same. You can find the specifics on a DIY incubator for birds or a DIY incubator for reptiles at the bottom of this page.

Other DIY incubators can be produced with other types of material such as a sufficiently large aquarium (depending on your type of breed), aquarium top, bricks, plastic container, digital thermometers, humidity gauge, submersible heater and lining material such as vermiculite or perlite.

A DIY incubator is preferred over commercial incubators, as the latter are more expensive and difficult in operation while homemade hatching incubators can fit your desired space and requirements.

Easy as it may be or sound to make your own DIY incubator, it is advisable to research carefully on the breed you intend to hatch as different animals have different breeding conditions.
